2024 Recap & Trading Plan for 2025: A Year of Opportunities and Growth

Hello Guys! I hope you are doing good. This is probably my last blog of 2024. In this blog, I will show you what I did in 2024 and the trading plan for 2025.

Firstly I want to Thank you for your love, faith, and support not only in 2024 but throughout my journey. Without you, I could not have achieved this, and I am deeply grateful for your support.

So now, without wasting you much time, let me share what we have achieved in 2024.

2024 Recap and Options Trading Performance

As you know, I'm a full-time options trader. I trade option hedging strategies for positional, rule-based option strategies for intraday, and some manual trading for intraday through data analysis.

In the first 6 months, I was completely dependent on option hedging and rule-based option-selling strategies. I use an algo trading tool (Stoxxo) to automate these rule-based option strategies. I'm managing my positional option strategies manually.

This whole year was very tough in terms of option selling. Premiums were very low and risk was very high due to high spikes. But somehow we managed to generate a 3-4% monthly return from option hedging strategies in the first 6 months.

I have optimised my rule-based strategies around 5–6 times throughout 2024. The returns were not as per my expectations. I was expecting 3-4% from intraday strategies also, but somehow we managed to achieve a 30% return in 2024 from rule-based option selling strategies for intraday.

This year, I have deployed my most of the capital in intraday strategies only and keep small portion for positional.

These rule-based option strategies are complete for intraday. And I used a tool (Stoxxo) to automate these strategies.

In the year 2024, Banknifty strategies were the top performer but Nifty helped in keeping my MTM stable. Although return was less in Nifty compared to Banknifty, but it was more consistent in terms of profitability.

After November 12, 2024, when NSE stopped weekly expiries in BankNifty, I took a break from intraday strategies and focused more on positional hedging strategies.

Here is the performance of option hedging strategies for positional:

I planned to deploy around Rs. 40 lakh for these option hedging strategies. However, I kept major capital in intraday strategies and kept only 20 lakh for these positional strategies.

The reason was that return with intraday strategies looks more promising compared to positional strategies.

So the above performance is based on 20 lakh capital which is around 25% of the deployed capital.

Options Trading Plan for 2025

After the removal of weekly expires, we need to optimise our intraday strategies. I'm working on it and most probably in the January 2025, I will share my optimised premium intraday strategies.

In 2025, I will also focus more on positional option strategies. I will try to create a separate basket for option selling and buying. So that it will stand alone without any hedge or support required from positional strategies.

So, in short, I have the following tasks on my to-do list:

1. I will keep more focus on Option hedging strategies for positional including weekly expiry strategies in Nifty and monthly expiry strategies in BankNifty.
2. I will diversify my basket with stock-specific option strategies.
3. 3-4% per month return is my target for the coming year with these positional hedging strategies.

So the roadmap is clear only need to execute things.
